Sof Omar Cave – Ethiopia’s Hidden Underground World

Sof Omar Cave is one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular natural wonders and one of the longest underground caves in Africa. Located in the Bale Zone of Oromia Region, the cave is formed by the constant flow of the Weyib River, which carved deep passages through limestone over thousands of years, creating a breathtaking underground world.

A Spiritual and Natural Landmark

The cave holds great cultural and spiritual significance. Named after Sheikh Sof Omar, a respected Muslim scholar who once lived in the area, the cave is considered a sacred site for local communities. Visitors often feel the peaceful and mystical atmosphere that surrounds the place.
